Dorm Life

The accomodation for us Finnish students at Hancock was organised by the Finlandia University so that we could stay at Finlandia Hall the whole time. To be able to live at the dorms with the Finlandia students made our stay much more vivid than what it would have been living somewhere with just the two of us. It was wonderful to make friends and get to know the student life in Michigan beside the elementary school life. It was also the friends who made us feel like we could've stayed there for longer time and made it hard for us to leave back to Finland.

Living at the dorms taught us a lot of the everyday life of our peers in the US and made us see the school system there as a whole. We didn't learn about just the first years at school but also about the time when students are already thinking of their careers and jobs. In future of Hei Suomi! -program I would find it great if the Finnish students had a chance to visit also a high school and see a little of the studying there.
